Fairlawn Christian Reformed Church Morning Worship October 1, 2006 10:15 A.M. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Preparation And Praise Prelude: “Adagio” Mendelssohn Welcome and Announcements: Silent Prayer and Preparation * Call to Worship: Psalm 90 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. May the beauty of the Lord our God rest upon us. May your deeds be shown to your servants and your splendor to their children. * Hymn: PH 460 “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” St. Denio * God’s Greeting: Grace and peace to you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Blessed be God, And blessed is his kingdom, now and forever. Amen. * Prayer of the Day: Eternal God, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth are named, unite us, as we worship in this place, with all your people throughout the world, who are lifting up their hands and hearts to you, that your Church on earth and in heaven may offer up one holy sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, to the praise and honor of your name, through Christ our Lord. Amen. * Response: “We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise” Kirk Dearman, 1984, John T. Benson Co., CCLI 503812
Confession And Prayer Prayer of Confession: Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, and have transgressed your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done, and there is no health in us. Lord God, have mercy upon us. Spare those who confess their sins. Restore those who are repentant, according to your promises declared unto us in Christ Jesus our Lord. Grant that we may live a godly, righteous, and holy life to the glory of your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Silent Prayer and Confession Minister: Amen. Assurance of Pardon: I Peter 1 Response: PH 309 “Lift Up Your Hearts Unto the Lord” Sing Alleluia [Children age 3 ½ - grade Pre-K may leave during the Response.] Congregational Prayer The Service Of The Word * Hymn: “How Sweet and Awesome Is the Place” St. Co.umba
Responsive Reading from the Psalms: Psalm 27
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? Though an army should besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord. Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, will I seek. Teach me your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. I am confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Reading from the Gospels: Luke 11:1-4 Sermon: Teach Us to Pray, Part II * Hymn: PH 298 “According to Thy Gracious Word” Bangor The Offering Of Tribute * Offertory Prayer Offering: Fairlawn General Fund Offertory: “All Glory Be to God on High” Armsdorf * Doxology: PH 638 “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow” Genevan 134 (Old Hundredth) Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
The Service Of The Sacrament Of Communion THE LORD’S SUPPER * SURSUM CORDA—THE GREAT THANKSGIVING Lift up your hearts. We lift them up unto the Lord. Let us give thanks unto the Lord our God. It is proper and right to do so. Truly it is proper and right and our duty that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to you, O Lord, holy Father, Almighty and Everlasting God. Therefore with angels and archangels and all the company of heaven, we praise and magnify your glorious Name, evermore praising you and saying, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty; heaven and earth are full of your glory. Glory be to you, O Lord Most High. THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION PRAYER OF CONSECRATION Heavenly Father, show forth among us the presence of your life-giving Word and Holy Spirit, to sanctify us and your whole church through this sacrament. Grant that all who share the body and blood of our Savior Jesus Christ may be one in him, and remain faithful in love and hope. And as this grain has been gathered from many fields into one loaf, and these grapes from many hills into one cup, grant, O Lord, that your whole church may soon be gathered from the ends of the earth into your kingdom. Now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. THE INVITATION TO THE TABLE THE DEDICATORY PRAYER We do not presume to come to this your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your great and manifold mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, whose nature it is to always have mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that we may evermore dwell in him and he in us. Amen. THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE BREAD AND WINE Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. The gifts of God for the people of God. (Please hold elements until all have been served. The outer ring holds wine; the inner ring, grape juice.)
THE THANKSGIVING Congregation in Christ, since the Lord has fed us at his table, let us praise his holy name with thanksgiving. Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion. Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. Blessing and Dismissal * Blessing: May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon you and give you peace. Amen. * Response: PH 249 “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” Nicaea Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth and sky and sea; Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, God in three persons, blessed Trinity! Postlude: “Old Hundredth” Bender *Indicates congregation stands ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
