Prelude: “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” Rogers Welcome and Announcements: Silent Prayer and Preparation * Call to Worship: Psalm 78 O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old—what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. * Hymn: PH 478 “Tell Out, My Soul” Woodlands * God’s Greeting: Grace and peace be to you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Blessed be God, And blessed is his kingdom, now and forever. Amen. * Prayer of the Day: Let your Spirit, O God, rest upon all those who are involved in teaching our youth, whether in the home, the church or in school. Enable them, both by word and example, to lead their students to reverence truth, to desire goodness and to delight in beauty; that, following after these things, both those who teach and those who learn may come to know and worship you, the giver of all good things, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. * Response: PH 477 “You Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim” Hanover “Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!” let all cry aloud, and honor the Son; the praises of Jesus the angels proclaim, fall down on their faces and worship the Lamb. Confession and Prayer Litany for Christian Education: Our faithful God told Israel—and also tells us—to teach children his ways “so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live.” (Deuteronomy 6:2) We will teach our children the ways of the Lord. God told Israel that “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever.” (Deuteronomy 29:29) We will teach our children the things God has revealed. In telling the parable of the sower, Jesus said, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you.” (Mark 4:11) We will teach our children the nature of the kingdom of God. Christ expects his adopted children to show the world the secret of the kingdom until he comes again, “faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” (I Peter 4:10) We will teach our children to serve the Lord with every talent that he gives them. Lord teach us as parents and youth the truth of your kingdom. Lord, lead our children to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to live under the rule of his kingdom. Amen Prayer of Confession: Lord God Almighty, who searches our hearts and knows our thoughts and intentions, we confess that we have not loved you with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength. And we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have loved what we ought not to have loved, and we have coveted what is not ours. Our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has for us become a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past we cannot change and open to us a future in which we can be changed, and grant us grace to grow in the likeness of Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we pray.
