Welcome and Announcement:   Silent Prayer and Preparation

*  Call to Worship:                                                                                                        Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.  God is within her, she will not fall.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

*  Hymn:  PH 469                         “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”                                    Ein Feste Burg

              And also with you.

Our help is in the name of the Lord,

              Who made heaven and earth.

And blessed is his kingdom, now and forever.  Amen.

*  Prayer of the Day:

Almighty God, who pours the Spirit of grace and of supplication upon your people, deliver us, as we draw near to you, from coldness of heart and a wandering mind, so that with steadfast thought and renewed love, we may worship you in Spirit and in truth, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

*  Response:   PH 501                           “Oh, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing”                         Azmon

To God all glory, praise, and love be now and ever given

By saints below and saints above, the church in earth and heaven.

Confession And Prayer

Prayer of Confession:                                         adapted from John Calvin’s Genevan Service Book

Lord God!  Eternal and Almighty Father, we acknowledge and confess before your holy majesty that we are sinners, conceived and born in guilt and in corruption, prone to do evil, unable of ourselves to do any good, and who, by reason of our depravity, transgress your holy commandments.  Therefore, we have drawn upon ourselves, by your just sentence, condemnation and death.  But with heartfelt sorrow we repent and deplore our offenses.  Be pleased to have compassion upon us, most gracious God, for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.  And in removing our guilt and our pollution, give us the daily increase of the grace of your Holy Spirit, that acknowledging from our inmost hearts our own unrighteousness, we may be touched with sorrow that shall work true repentance, and that your Spirit, putting to death the sin within us, may produce the fruits of holiness and of righteousness that are well-pleasing in your sight, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Silent Prayer and Confession         Minister: Amen

       Assurance of Pardon:                                                                                                  Micah 7

[Children age 3 ˝ - Pre- K may leave during the hymn.]

*  Confession of Faith:  Luther’s Second Article, The Apostles’ Creed

I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with his holy, precious blood, and with his innocent suffering and death, that I may be his own and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, truth and blessedness, even as he is risen from the dead, and lives and reigns through all eternity. This is most certainly true.
