Prelude: “Evening Prayer” Humperdinck/arr. Del Borgo “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” Dykes/arr. Kuder Welcome and Announcements Silent Prayer and Preparation * Call to Worship: Psalm 111 I will extol the Lord with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever—holy and awesome is his name. To him belongs eternal praise. * Hymn: PH 505 “For All the Saints” Sine Nomine * God’s Greeting: Grace and peace be to you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Blessed be God, And blessed is his kingdom, now and forever. Amen. * Prayer of the Day: Lord God our Father, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you. Grant us purity of heart and strength of purpose, that no selfish passion may hinder us from receiving your good gifts, and no weakness keep us from experiencing the perfect freedom that only comes from serving you, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. * Response: PH 504 “Holy God, We Praise Your Name” Grosser Gott Hark, the glad celestial hymn angel choirs above are raising; cherubim and seraphim, in unceasing chorus praising, fill the heavens with sweet accord: “Holy, holy, holy Lord!” Confession and Prayer Prayer of Confession: Most merciful God, we confess to you that we are by nature sinful and unclean, and that we have disobeyed you in thought, word and deed; and not only in outward transgressions, but also in secret thoughts and desires that we are ashamed to acknowledge, but which are known to you. For this reason we seek refuge in your infinite mercy and pray that you would be gracious to us, and turn from us those punishments which we by our sins have deserved. Forgive us for all of our sins and renew within us the image of Jesus Christ, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Silent Prayer and Confession Minister: Amen. Assurance of Pardon: Isaiah 55 Congregational Prayer ~ following the prayer, respond by singing PH 624: Hear our prayer, O Lord, hear our prayer, O Lord. Incline your ear to us, and grant us your peace. The Service Of The Sacrament Of Communion THE LORD’S SUPPER * SURSUM CORDA—THE GREAT THANKSGIVING Minister: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up unto the Lord. Minister: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. People: It is proper and right so to do. Minister: It is very proper and right that we should give thanks unto thee; that we should adore, glorify, laud, exalt, honor, praise with hymns, bless and sanctify the one majesty of the Holy Trinity. Not, indeed that thy majesty requires our praise, nor that thou hast need of our thanksgiving. For those who praise thee are numberless: high authorities infinite, the clustering cherubim thousands of bright cherubim and countless host; multitudes and armies without number, ranks upon ranks of devouring flame, marvelous powers of burning coal, hidden legions which bear up the chariot of the cherubim, the revolutions of whose wheels are infinite; troops of seraphim which by the throb of their wings move the threshold; a shining galaxy which out of the midst of the burning coals is discerned by its own movements; a thousand thousands who stand before thee and myriads of myriads praise thy being. And with one clear voice and one loving harmony, with sweet song and heavenly tongue, they cry the one to the other and raise their voices in eternal praise saying… All: “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee, O Lord, Most High. Amen.” THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION PRAYER OF CONSECRATION Heavenly Father, show forth among us the presence of your life-giving Word and Holy Spirit, to sanctify us and your whole church through this sacrament. Grant that all who share the body and blood of our Savior Jesus Christ may be one in him, and remain faithful in love and hope. And as this grain has been gathered from many fields into one loaf, and these grapes from many hills into one cup, grant, O Lord, that your whole church may soon be gathered from the ends of the earth into your kingdom. Now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. THE INVITATION TO THE TABLE THE DEDICATORY PRAYER We do not presume to come to this your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your great and manifold mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, whose nature it is to always have mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that we may evermore dwell in him and he in us. Amen. THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE BREAD AND WINE Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia! The gifts of God for the people of God. (Please hold each element until all have been served. The outer ring holds wine; the inner rings, grape juice.) THE THANKSGIVING Congregation in Christ, since the Lord has fed us at his table, let us praise his holy name with thanksgiving. Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion. Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. Blessing and Dismissal * Blessing: May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon you and give you peace. Amen. * Response: PH 620, stanza 3 “By the Sea of Crystal” Crystal
