Evan Pillsbury serves as InterVarsity staff working with students in the Arts (Literary, Visual & Performing Arts) at the University of Southern Maine (Gorham-Portland) and the Maine College of Art (Portland). Evan has been involved in professional ministry since 2000, holds two degrees in music (’94, B.M. from Wheaton College, IL; ’00, Master of Sacred Music from Boston University) and has been a busy freelance musician (‘cellist) since 1995. He has been serving part-time on staff as Musician-in-Residence at Christ the Redeemer Presbyterian Church (Portland) since the Fall of 2002. Evan and his wife Kathryn (Masso) moved to Portland in 2002 and have three children, Karis (7), Silas (5) and a newborn, Simeon (born January 5th, 2006).

The name of Evan’s ministry is Imago Dei—meaning, “Image of God.” He looks to build God’s image in students of the Arts through:

• Exploring the scriptures & prayer
• Reflecting on works of art to see the working out of what it means to be an image bearer in the arts
• Creating new partnerships between students and communities to serve others as bearers of Christ

Through all of these activities Evan applies an “evangelistic lense” (rather than an evangelism program) so that all activities are effective in nurturing non-Christian and Christian students side-by-side.
